About:
I’m Beaux Salix (胡詠樺), a British Chinese filmmaker, illustrator and composer from Hong Kong and London.
Influenced by surrealist and experimental animation traditions, as well as children's cartoons, my work centres on hand-drawn animation and autobiographical storytelling, often exploring memory, kinship, and cross-cultural identity.
I aim to preserve the tactile and symbolic qualities of traditional animation within contemporary digital workflows, and am always experimenting with forms of storytelling spanning surreal fantasy, absurdism, and essay film.
With a background in classical music and fine arts, I also compose for film and multimedia projects, working with spatial sound and real-time audiovisual interaction. I approach composition as a way of shaping atmosphere, rhythm, and pacing.
A graduate of the Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program, I hold degrees in Animation (BFA) and Music (BA) from Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University. I am currently based in London and open to select commissions and collaborative projects.
